This short budget trek offers a peek into the majesty of the 50km Annapurna Himal, north of the lake city of Pokhara. A short drive leads to Nayapul for the start of the trek. The paths take you through a mix of terraced farmlands, rhododendron, oak and bamboo forests. From ridges there are spectacular views of the 6 000m/19 600ft snow clad peaks of the range.

A highlight is the early morning climb from Ghorepani to Nepal’s most visited physical landmark: the grassy summit of Poon Hill (3 210m/10 530ft). It offers magnificent sunrise views that include Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, the fish-tailed peak of sacred Machhapuchhare and Manaslu.

Return to your hotel for breakfast before beginning the long, downward walk back to Nayapul. While the altitudes are not excessive, a level of pre-fitness is essential for this quick trek.

If you have more time you may trek Annapurna Base Camp Trek of 15 days to see the Annapurna Himalaya from a close.

Day 01: Pokhara – Nayapul (1 070m/3 510ft) – Hile (1 510m/4 952ft), 1 hrs 15min drive, 2-3 hrs trek.

Day 02: Hile – Ghorepani (2 850m/9 350ft), 5-6 hrs.

Day 03: Ghorepani, Poon Hill (3 210m/10 528ft) – Hile (1 510m/4 950ft) – Pokhara (880m/2 900ft),  6-7 hrs, 75 min drive

Day 01: Pokhara – Nayapul (1 070m) – Hile (1 510m/4 952ft), 1 hrs 15 min drive, 2-3 hrs trek

From your hotel, we drive north through farmland and forest to the trail head at Nayapul. Trek to the prosperous riverside village of Birethanti (1 000m) at the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Kholas. Then follow the Bhurungdi Khola to Sudame (1 340m) before climbing gradually up the side of the valley, to Hile (1 510m) and pushing on to Tikhedhunga. Overnight in Tikhedhunga.

Day 02: Hile – Ghorepani (2 870m/9 420ft), 5-6 hrs

The day begins with a long ascent on stone staircases to the village of Ulleri (2 080m) – and an amazing landscape with great views of Annapurna South (7 219m) and Hiunchuli (6 441m). The ascent continues through ancient rhododendron and oak forests for several hours, with rest breaks, to the large village of Ghorepani. From here there are fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna Himal. Overnight in Ghorepani.

Day 03: Ghorepani – Poon hill (3 210m/10 528ft) – Hile (1 510m/4 950ft) – Pokhara (880m/2 900ft), 6-7 hrs trek, 75 min drive

An early, ¾ hr, steep trek leads to Poon Hill’s grassy knoll. This landmark viewpoint offers unobstructed vistas of the high Himalaya from Dhaulagiri I (8 172m) and Upper Dolpo in the west, across the Annapurnas (Annapurna I, 8 019m), to Machhapuchhare (6 997m, Fish Tail) and east to Manaslu (8 156m). Behind: an ocean of Sal forests stretch to lowland India.

Return to your hotel for breakfast and then begin the long return trek, to Hile for lunch, before descending to Nayapul and our transport back to your hotel in Pokhara.

3 Day Poon Hill Trek

My friend and I did a 3 days Poon Hill Trek. Since we are just staying in Neapl for a week. Our plan is to travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara on the 22nd, then start the trek right after we arrive, and then hike for another 2 days and arrive back to Pohara on the 24th.

We contacted a lot of agencies and they all say it is impossible for us to start the trek on 22nd. Landmark Discovery is the only agency said it is possible. Prem is super fast in replying emails. He specially arranged us to take the public bus, which leaves early in the morning. We ended up arriving at Nayapul at about 4pm and arrive to the hostels at around 7 something.

The hike is easy, and all the arrangements (transports, food, accommodations) provided by Prem are excellent. Our guide, Rajeswor also took good cares of us along the trek. His explanations are also clear and detailed.

We are very impressed by the whole service provided by Prem and his team!

My friend and I did the 3 day Poon Hill trek with Landmark Discovery Treks.

We talked with Prem via mail and he even came to our hotel quite late to discuss our small trek. He was very friendly and gave us all the information we needed. Prem wasn't just friendly, the service he offered was incredible! :-) He dropped us off at the bus to Kathmandu, made sure our guide Rajesh picked us up in Pokhara ànd afterwards he made sure we got back to the airport in Kathmandu. He checked in after our trek just to make sure our view from the Poon Hill had been good! Also, it was very clear from the beginning what was included in the price (almost everything!) and what not, so no misunderstandings could take place.

We did our trek with Rajesh, a great guide who is friendly, funny and very helpful when needed. We felt very comfortable and we really liked playing cards and talking together! Even though he could run up and down the hill a 100 times in the time we climbed it once, he had a lot of patience and told us to go "slowly, slowly" or "bistari, bistari" :-)

We would definitely recommend Rajesh and Prem! Thanks for everything!

Together with a friend I did the Poon Hill trek in 3 days. Landmark Discovery Treks aka Prem organized this trip for us. Prem is very easy to contact and replies to your questions immediately and straightforward. We decided to do the trek with Prem's agency because his offer was for us the most interesting. Almost everything is included in the price (guide, food, tea, water, transport, extra gear,...). Prem delivers a very good service and clearly does his job with a lot of passion. We made our short trek with Rajesh. He is probably the best guide ever :). He makes sure that you do everything at your own pace but also encourages you along the way. During our trek we learned about the local culture and nature. We played the most addictive card game (dhumbal) together and drank the best lemon ginger tea with cookies. We were both really happy about the trek we made and we would recommand Prem and Rajesh to all our friends and family. Thank you for a great trek guys!

Can't wait to visit Nepal again!

I wanted to go on a short trek as I had limited time while visiting Nepal. I came across Landmark Discovery Treks that offered 3 day and 2 night trek around some of the Annapurna region.

Prem was very good with communication and was always responsive to emails.

I met up with Prem and he introduced me to my guide Gonis. Gonis was lovely and came along with me on the bus trip to Pokhara and organised taxi to begin trek. Gonis was great to trek with, motivating but also told me that I can go "slowly slowly" if I wished. We had a great time and met lots of other solo travellers. Was able to meet some of Gonis' family when we stopped for lunch which was nice. I had a wonderful experience and cannot wait to do a longer trek again!
