The most popular and bit crowded trekking region of Nepal, Annapurna Base Camp trek takes around 10 to 12 days to complete the trail that comprises 4 of way back and 2 days of acclimatization. However, the trek can be completed in just 7 days but the wilderness experience is the same. This  is not a rushed or unsafe version- it is a smart, well-planned one.

Day-by-Day7 Days Itinerary for Annapurna Base Camp trek

Day1:Kathmandu to Pokhara(flight) to Pothana

Altitude: 1,990m,    Walking: 4-5hrs     Distance:~8km

Early morning, take a 25 min scenic flight from Kathmandu (1,400m) to Pokhara (900m). Drive the trail to Phedi and trek through sub-tropical forest to Dhampus (1650m/5,400ft). After lunch, ascend towards forested ridge to Potana.

  • Sleep at Pothana

Day2:Pothana to Landruk to Jhinu Danda

Altitude: 1,990m,    Walking: 6-7hrs     Distance:~14km

Embark through the stunning trail to Deurali and descend to Tolka (1,700m), a Magar village. Then gradually ascend to Landruk, a perfect hotspot for lunch.  Trek until Jhinu Dada village via spectacular Modi Khola village and enjoy soothing at natural hot spring on the bank of river, beneath the village.

  • Hot Spring at Jhinu Danda--go in the evening
  • Small amount entry fee for hot spring
  • Modi Khola rivers runs alongside the trails

Day3: Jhinu Danda To Dobhan

Altitude: 2,540m,    Walking: 6-7hrs     Distance:~12km

After breakfast, trek through steeply terrain that meets stone-paved route to Chhomrong. Then, trek down decently to cross Chhomrong Khola before continuing up Sinuwa. Ascend up to Doban via uninhabited forested area of bamboo and rhododendron. 

  • Chhomrong: buy suppliers and snacks if you want.
  • Sleep downhill to Chhomrong khola teahouse.
  • Beautiful bamboo forest after Sinuwa

Day4:Dobhan to Machhapuchhare Base camp to ABC

Altitude: 4,130m,    Walking: 8-9hrs     Distance:~16km

Continue up your trail crossing rhododendron and bamboo forest and several avalanches chutes all way to Himalaya. Continue trekking through U-Shaped entrance gate of Annapurna Sanctuary valley and Machhapuchre Base Camp at 3,700m. The base camp is over shadowed by Machhapuchre (fishtail), Gangapurna and Annapurna III. Then, head your trail into the heart of Annapurna Sanctuary and finally to Annapurna Base Camp at (4,130m). The magical view of ring of the peak is immensely rewarding. 

  • Walk through avalanche areas
  • Rest at MBC(3700m) before going higher.
  • Arrive at ABC to see 13+ montains from here.

Day5:ABC sunrise to Sinuwa

Altitude: 2,340m,    Walking: 7-8hrs     Distance:~18km

Make a hike in a base camp for unforgettable views and photographic opportunities from the rim of glacier. View multiple 7,000m+ peaks such as Annapurna I, III, Machhapuchre, Khangsar Kang, Hiunchuli and Gangapurna from closest proximity. Trek back through same route all the way to Sinuwa for hot shower, great lunch and comfortable sleep. 

  • Wake up at 5am for sunrise
  • Take photos from glacier edge
  • Hot shower are available at sinuwa

Day6:Sinuwa to Ghandruk to Pokhara

Altitude: 990m,    Walking: 5-6hrs     Distance:~13km

Gradually, continue down to Chhomorong Khola and gently ascend through staircases to reach Chhomorong. Descend to Jhinu Dada through steeply route, cross suspension bridge and trek for a while through shady forest that eventually takes you to Ghandruk Phedi (1,150m/3,770ft). From Ghandruk Phedi, you make an off road drive to Nayapul and paved road drive to Pokhara.

  • Vechile pickup at Ghandruk Phedi
  • Drive Nayapul to Pokhara(~2hours)
  • Relax in Pokhara at the Lake side hotel.

Day7:Pokhara to kathmandu (Flight/Drive)

Altitude: 1,440m    No Walking    Flight:25min or drive:6hrs

After breakfast, make a scenic drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu. Enjoy en route mid hill scenery and Trishuli River rafting destination. In Kathmandu, visit bustling Thamel city and if time permits, visit several UNESCO designated sites. 

  • If Flight, Pokhara to Kathmandu(25min)
  • or, 6-hour scenic road drive to kathmandu
  • In Kathmandu, shop and eat or you can visit Heritage sites.
