Pokhara, 200km west of Kathmandu, is Nepal’s second largest city and holiday playground. It nestles between Lake Phewa and the 50km Annapurna Range to the north. Our three day Sarangkot trek offers a rural introduction to this trekking region’s friendly people. Altitudes remain below 2 000m/6 500ft, eliminating any possibility of altitude problems. The trails are less crowded than those heading into the Annapurnas.

A short drive northeast of the city leads to the start of the trek through rural forest and farmland to the Gurung (Buddhist) village of Dhampus on the edge of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Views of the iconic and sacred Machhapuchhare (Fish tail), sentinel to the Annapurnas stands to the north – with fine snow peaks behind.

The trekking trail then heads south to Naudanda, where views overlook the Pokhara Valley whilst to the north, the Himalayan view broadens to include Dhaulagiri to the west, and Manaslu in the east. An afternoon walk through villages to the southeast leads to prosperous Sarangkot for the night. Yet better views of the lake and Himalayan skyline – with three 8 000m/26 250ft peaks in sight are on offer. After a sunrise photo shoot, spend a pleasant morning walking through forest down to Phewa Lake – and a car to your hotel.

An easy walk leads up to Dhampus Phedi (bottom of a hill) which is set amongst rice paddies and millet fields. The trail gradually rises, through agricultural hamlets, and patches of rhododendron forest. Dhampus is a vibrant Gurung village: its Buddhist people speak their own language and favour traditional dress.  They specialise in horticulture and organic farming. From the village, there are angular views of sacred Machhapuchhare (Fish Tail) standing in front of the Annapurna Range.

We then turn southwest, and trek gently to hilltop Naudanda Views from Naudanda stretch across the Annapurnas to Manaslu in the east and also offer a bird’s eye view over the Harpan Valley that feeds distant Lake Phewa.

Continue southeast on trails to bustling Sarangkot. Impressive views to the south are enlarged as Phewa Lake; set in its green hills draws nearer. Sarangkot is a large and vibrant village with a mix of cultural groups. The Temple of Shiva and Bhume Kalika are popular visitor sites.

Sunset and sunrise views of the Himalayan Chain, from just above the village, offer Dhaulagiri (highest peak in western Nepal), the sweep of the Annapurna Chain and the south face of Manaslu: three of the fourteen 8 000m peaks at a glance!

Day 06: Sarangkot – Pokhara (880m/2 900ft), 2 hrs

Catch the sunrise on camera before breakfast: it will rise just west of Manaslu. The best viewpoint is 15 min west of the village After breakfast; head south through the village fields before zigzagging steeply down though forest, for an hour. Amazing first trip to Nepal

First time in Nepal, such a beautiful and welcoming country. Loved the simplicity of how people live and go by through their days. Landed in Kathmandu to a very welcoming ambiance at the airport. to shortly after get picked up by our tour guides. Driven to the hotel while going through our tour plan of 4 days and 3 nights detailing all the activities we will be participating in. Prem was so helpful and concerned making every bit of our trip as comfortable and went out of his ways many times to ensure our trips ends up worth our money. a lovely first night spent at a very cozy, clean and quiet hotel with a thunder storm just adding to the thrill of the trip. The next morning, and shortly after a very nice breakfast, we took a domestic flight of 25 minutes to Pokhara, which our next stop. After lunch, we started our trek up to

Dampus camp. The trek took around 3 hours blessed by a very cool breeze and drizzling weather which made the scenery even more majestic and beautiful. Reaching Dampus camp, we settled into a very cozy hostel where we spent the night after a nice "family-like" dinner with the owners of the hostel. Next morning, we started on our way down back to Pokhara city where we were checked into a very nice hotel with view of the snow mountains at times when the skies were clear. We toured various parts of the city that were considered as attraction and spend the rest of the day just walking around. The nest day, we took an 8 hours bus ride from Pokhara back to Kathmandu, which was a real adventure not to be missed. Last day was our tour in Kathmandu. lots of history, heritage and interesting stories about the facts of many many touristic sites and temples, escorted by a very knowledgeable and information rich guide.
